Yesterday, pushing papers for the rock station I was listening to Indie 979 at my desk. Typing along I hear this song.

Ozma - "Domino Effect" (2001)
For a second I thought that it was Coldplay's new Single "Viva La Vida" the song in the new Apple Commercial. Turned up the radio investigated and realized that the two songs sound so similar...

Coldplay - "Viva La Vida" (2008)
Then flipping through the pages of my favorite Gossip Blog. I see this picture
After listening to the both songs. I realized that is Chris Martin really the "Rock God" they claim he is? I will say that Ozma is probably not the only band to use those series of notes together. But they just sound so similar.
bmoon, 2 years ago | FlagJust checked out the Ozma song - reminded me more of a Weezer track, can't remember which one (off the Green album). Coldplay's'Viva La Vida' sounds like a completely different song IMO. The whole song is a 4 chord progressio n - C-D-G-Em, w/ C-D-Bm-Em thrown in occasional ly in the chorus part. Just from ear I don't think the Ozma song is using the same chords. As for Chris Martin being a rock-god, I hate the hype. He is quickly turning into our generation 's Bono though.
surelock22, 2 years ago | FlagHere's my take on this: I like the Coldplay song better because I like the instruments used and the way they're used better to make the song. People give me shit for liking Green Day, but I find Green Day's use of the riffs to be better than the originals. Geek Stink Breth > Whatever Chicago Song that was. Pop can only be so complex, you know?
